Surfrider foundation water testing
The Seattle chapter of the Surfrider foundation is looking for volunteers from UW to perform lab work for water quality testing of high-use recreational beaches in the Seattle area. Surfrider volunteers collect the samples every two weeks on Wednesday afternoon and bring them to UW’s DEOHS on Roosevelt Way, where a group of 2-3 UW-affiliated volunteers process them using IDEXX Colilert and Enterolert methods. On Thursday, after a 24 hour incubation period, the results are read and posted on Surfrider’s website. Lab shifts are typically 1-2 hours. No previous microbiology lab experience needed! We’ll be testing next on September 15th. Please contact Seattle.bwtf@Surfrider.org if you’d like to be involved.
